Notice to coaches

Late August / Early September weather is fickle. Race day has ranged from high heat in 2022, "cold" and damp in 2023, to sunny and breezy in 2024 and 2025.  

We have contingency plans in place to shorten races based on heat exposure criteria and direction from emergency services.

Please ensure that you and your team are familiar with CIF heat illness prevention and heat acclimatization policies (see links below).  The event venue (Temecula) is in WBGT Region 3.  Therefore, heat acclimatization is important particularly for schools coming from milder coastal areas.

Divisions

• Freshman

• Sophomore

• JV 

• Varsity

• No limit to number of entries per team for Freshmen, Sophomore and JV races. For Varsity, you can enter up to 10 athletes in this early season meet to determine your varsity team for future races.

• Separate races for Small schools (D3/D4/D5) and Large schools (D1/D2) for each division.

  • The school category is based on the CIF SS cut off between D2 and D3 (D3 is 1933 students or under for 2025). 

  • We shall update this info if there are major changes to the CIF SS D2/D3 enrollment cut off for the 2026 season.

• Sundown Showdown for the 20-30 fastest teams regardless of school size:

  • Enter your team(s) in the Varsity division. 

  • After submitting your entry, please contact us to confirm that your team would like to be considered.

  • There are also some spots for individuals in the Sundown Showdown races.

  • The list of teams/individuals in the Sundown Showdown will be published the week of the race.

• Coaches will be issued wristbands for access to the start line and areas of the course out of bounds to spectators:

  • 1-2 teams - 2 wristbands

  • 3-4 teams - 3 wristbands

  • 5 or more teams - 4 wristbands

Cost

• $50: Per individual

• $160: 1 Team in a Division (e.g. a Girls Varsity Team), i.e. 4 or more runners

• $320: 2 Teams (e.g. Girls Varsity Team + Boys Varsity Team, or Boys JV Team + Boys Varsity Team)

• $480: 3 Teams / $640: 4 Teams

• $750: Maximum Entry Fee (More than 4 Teams, or combination of teams and individuals)
